So, when I first introduced Peg Leg Polly's crew, some dubbed it the "minori-team," making up for a mostly white cast by bringing in a bunch of minorities at once, and making them bad guys to boot. Which was a fair thing to bring up at the time. I can totally see how it looked like that. But I mostly did it because I wanted there to be a non-white member of Janet's crew at some point, and this was the best way to do it. I will often create a character with the intent of them having a large role, only to have them not really fit in and fade away. Meanwhile, characters that were inteded to be one-page gags end up with much larger roles. I knew I wanted one of Polly's crew members to end up on Janet's crew, but I didn't know which one it would be. I'm glad that Holly ended up being the one! I love her design.
Of course, I ended up deciding to end the comic at the end of this arc, so it might be moot. Maybe I'll have to do a short story if only because I want to feature her. Someday.
